Have
you ever thought of starting an online business? I can assure you that many
people venture into online home-based businesses to help realize
their dreams. May you also would like to get some new online business ideas.
Since 2013, I have had the opportunity to do some research online to get a feel
of what works and what does not work. My research helped me unveil an online
business platform that has helped many people achieve their goals. Based on my
experience with the online business, I would like to share with you ten silly
mistakes that you want to avoid when starting an online business.
1. Not having a plan
May you have had many
people talk about a business plan before venturing into any business? Let me
tell you that this is not just about a brick-and-mortar business only, but it
also applies to online businesses. You certainly need to develop a business
plan when you are planning to start an online business. The business plan lays
the road map for starting your business. There are several online free tools
that could assist you when you want to start your business online. These help
you to put down all the resources and tools you will require to build your
online business.
2. Lack of Focus
Another mistake that many
people make is the lack of focus or getting detracted from your business
venture because of the noise and hype that is quite common online. It’s
critical to focus on your business. What I know is that there are some scams
that prey on innocent people online promising them overnight riches. There are,
of course, some free online businesses that you could identify online.
Wealthy Affiliate is one of the online business platforms that could help you
through knowledge sharing and skills development to help you start a strong business
foundation that could lead you to make money fast online.
3. Not doing research on your niche market
To be able to come up with
a business that could help you achieve your dreams online, it’s critical for
you to do research on your niche market. That means taking time to
understand what people want or problems that they are facing that need some
solutions. In other words, you need to check on some forums or platforms where
people are discussing some of the pressing issues that require some solutions.
It’s important to recognize that just a brick-and-mortar business;
an online home-based business requires that you do what is normally called
market research.
4. Not putting in reasonable start-up capital
Some
people have been deceived that an online business can be started without
putting in reasonable start-up capital to help kick-start the business. The
most important thing that you need to do is to identify what the business will
require such as building a website, developing a logo, and hiring people to help
you with some of the things that you need to build a strong online business.
5. Undervaluing what you're selling
It is common for many
people to undervalue what they are selling online. You need to seek assistance
if you have developed a product that you will be selling online. I have
seen instances where somebody puts their online business for sale but unfortunately,
you would find them undervaluing this kind of product. As I say there are
several platforms you could go to subcontract people to help you with whatever
you want to do. In some cases, you could do your own research on where to get
help for free.
6. Ignoring customer service
One other
mistake people make Is taking things for granted and not giving customers value
for money. Like the brick-and-mortar business, an online business requires that
you provide quality customer service. Failing to do so could result in your
online business collapsing. I would urge you to ensure that you take good care
of your visitors. For instance, you need to respond to the comments made by
your visitors as regularly as you could whether they are making negative
remarks or positive remarks. Do not take the comments personally when people
comment on your website or blog. It’s important to always stay positive.
7. Giving away too much and getting nothing in return
One of the mistakes that people make is giving too much and getting nothing in return. While I agree that content is key in the online business, you should be cautious not to provide too much when you don’t get anything in return for your effort. My advice is that you provide a teaser and let your visitors yearn for more. There is no free lunch!
8. Spreading yourself too thin on social media marketing
Spreading yourself too thin
on social media marketing is a serious mistake that could take a lot of your
effort and energy. I have seen people advertising or trying to engage their
customers on all the social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, Google Plus, Linked In. etc. This can lead to you not making the
impact that is required. You need to choose one or two social media platforms
and focus on them for more results.
9. Underestimating the drive it takes to succeed
As indicated earlier, there is a lot of hype and fluff about making quick money online. This is a serious deception that usually misleads people who are particularly newbies thinking that it’s easy to make money online without much effort. Like any other business, online businesses require sweat and blood before you could get tangible results.
10. Assuming that it is one size fits all
Assuming that it is one size fits all is another silly mistake that people make money online. Some assume that if another person is successful online then they can also easily become successful too. Some believe also that if you use the same online platform then you could also be successful. They tend to overlook the geographical, financial inputs, and other resources required to make the business profitable.
As
indicated, there are some free online businesses that are profitable.
